Founded in 1920 by a trio of brothers who were traveling actors, AMC helped popularize the multiplex model in the 1960s. The company expanded rapidly, opening 10-screen multiplexes across the United States and the United Kingdom throughout the 1980s. In 1995, AMC opened the first megaplex in North America, with 24 screens. Now the largest movie theater chain in the world, with more than 10,000 screens across the United States and Europe, AMC continues to innovate. The company introduced stadium seating and has added premium features such as IMAX, Dolby Cinema, 3D, and recliner seats to many of its theaters.
